Albert Lea Veterinary Clinic - What we have to offer

Your pet-family members have a shorter lifespan than your own which is why all of us at Albert Lea Veterinary Clinic feel a need to emphasize how important an annual examination is for them. A thorough physical evaluation and preemptive care can help curtail major health problems and lengthen your pet's time with you. The following are many of the services we have available to keep your companions at the top of their game:

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:  Our clinic is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.

Surgical Services:  Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. All of our surgery is done with a laser scalpel which leads to less bleeding as it cauterizes small blood vessels, a less painful recovery because it seals the nerve endings, & less swelling which leads to a quicker recovery for the patient. A CO2 laser is not only better for routine surgeries such as spays & neuters but also allows for more delicate procedures on eyes, ears and face.  It has also made problematic tumor removals easier.

Some of the procedures we offer are routine such as  spays, neuters ,& declaws.  We also offer many specialty procedures including eyelid surgeries, bracheocephalic defect   correction, aural hematoma repair, ear crops, and more.  Our veterinarians are experienced in ACL repair in dogs of all sizes.  They are well versed in both the lateral suture repair for smaller dogs and the TTA procedure for larger dogs.

Anesthesia:  We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.  The anesthetic gas used is the same anesthesia used in human hospitals.

Radiology Services:  Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.  We have a long time working relationship with Dr. Feeney, DVM, a board certified radiologist from the U of M.  For difficult diagnoses' owners may opt for his evaluation of the x-rays for an extra charge.

Dentistry:  Our dental services include 3 levels of teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.

Laboratory:  Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification.

  •

Pharmacy:  We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of Science Diet prescription diets.

Individualized Flea Control Programs:  We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet.

Dietary Counseling:  We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.

Behavioral Counseling:  We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.  Since 1988, Dr. Smith has been conducting puppy classes for puppies up to 16 weeks of age.  The class meets on Monday nights from 6:00PM - 7:00PM in the waiting room.  Cost is $15 for 4 consecutive weeks.  Call to get signed up for the next class.  507-373-8161
